BRENDAN J. RUNDE, Ph.D.

Marine Scientist

Mid-Atlantic Seascape Program

I am a fisheries scientist broadly interested in marine ecosystems and how humans use them. Many fish populations are public trust resources - like National Parks and National Forests, they belong to all of us. Stewardship and conservation of these resources is crucial if they are to persist in our changing world.

Princeton University Professor John Shepherd said, "Managing fisheries is hard: it's like managing a forest, in which the trees are invisible and they move around."

My passion lies in answering critical, applied questions about those invisible, moving trees. I develop and execute research, the results of which plug directly into management of fish and marine ecosystems.
